For instance, a wish to decorate myself with rose, a wish to eat chocolates, a wish to own a nice fancy car, a wish to get married to a beautiful girl and etc.
When we are in a conscious state, our five sense organs constantly perceive the outer world things. So that, a thought naturally gets created. For example, when we see a rose, a thought immediately strikes in the mind " Wow! what a beautiful flower". Then it becomes a desire to pluck it out, so that it can be used for our own happiness.
Sense organs perceive something and end up simply with certain thought. It is its natural functionality. Then we are the one, who is creating a desire and most of the times we create desires unconsciously. Once the desire starts, a sense of incompleteness gets created as a byproduct of it. It makes us think that “If I get this, then I will be content and happy”.
Wanting to quit the desires can again become a desire. Can we really quit the desires and live?
Without a desire we cannot eat to maintain our body. When we forcefully close our nose and mouth, our body produces a strong desire and forces us to take a breath.
Desires create a belief or illusion of completeness when we fulfill it. So in order to experience that kick again and again, we keep on desiring something till the end of our life. Till the desire is inbound, we experience no problem at all. But when it becomes unrestricted or boundless or compulsive then it directly and indirectly disturbs the balance of our life and we think that we are loosing our freedom.
But the desire carries the life force itself. So we end up frustrated and energyless eventually.
Once we become aware of it, the desire vanishes by itself. Then we can clearly understand our needs without any deceptions and create a desire consciously to achieve it. Here is the end of suffering. This is what freedom is all about.
