Once there was a sage, who lives in a cave. One day, while he was doing meditation, suddenly a deer came to him and pleased him that, it would hide in his cave, as it was chased by a hunter to kill. Then the sage pitied its condition and hidden it in his cave.
Later on, after a few hours, the hunter came to to the sage and asked him about the deer. As the sage was a strict believer in "Always tell the truth. Never lie", he told the hunter about the deer.
Because of his truth, the innocent deer was killed by the hunter.
Had the sage done a right thing? If it is not so, then what is the truth?
The verbal truth and untruth are moral and ethical issues, not an existential or life issue.
The real truth and untruth is not in the words you speak, it is in the way you hold your life within you.
Because the nature of the existence or life is to include everything in it.
When the Sun rises, it lights on everyone and everything without discrimination. Whoever opens their eyes towards him can see the light.
Similarly, the life or existence does not discriminate anything, it lights on us with an inclusion of everything. This is the truth.
Once we open our eyes towards the existence or life and become inclusive of everything it gives us, then we touch the truth. If we become prejudiced, then it is untruth. So truth and untruth is not in the words we speak. It is in the way we are.
Truth is the one which always exists, whether we are aware or unaware, like or dislike it.
A litmus test, whether you are in touch with the truth or not:
If there is any kind of suffering in you, then you are not in touch with truth. If you are touched with truth, then no suffering in you. The depth of your suffering shows how far you are from the truth.Photo credit: Eddi van W. / Foter / CC BY-ND
